When we’re out in our patches, we often hear the question, “What does IGY6 mean?” While many may think it’s simply an acronym for “I got your six,” the meaning runs much deeper. IGY6 embodies a commitment that transcends words—a pledge among veterans, military personnel, and first responders to always have each other’s backs, especially in times of need.
In military terminology, “six” refers to the back or rear. The phrase “I got your six” signifies a promise to protect and support one another, a vital principle that fosters camaraderie and trust among those who serve. This ethos is at the heart of IGY6, representing a bond that is both profound and enduring.
The design of our patch is rich with symbolism, each element carefully chosen to reflect our values and mission:
Pedro, the visionary behind this patch, has played a crucial role in bringing our design to life. We are immensely proud to wear this patch, which signifies not just our identity but our shared mission.
For our women’s patch, we’ve maintained a similar design to honor the sisterhood within our community. To distinguish it, we’ve incorporated two roses above the valknut. You may notice that there are only four stars at the bottom of the shield. These stars honor the first four original members of our sisterhood, recognizing their contributions and commitment to our cause.
Each member of IGY6 brings unique strengths and perspectives, but we are united by a common purpose: to embody the true meaning of having each other’s backs. IGY6 is more than just an acronym; it represents a powerful legacy of brotherhood and sisterhood within our community. Together, we will continue to uphold these values and support one another, ensuring that no one stands alone.
